Frank DeNardo thinks of retiring somewhere warmer and less stressful. Instead he receives a telephone call from a distraught father whose daughter, a journalist, is missing. For Anne Fitzgerald has gone underground into her investigation of vampires, and DeNardo must now follow if he is to be successful finding Anne. Smiling Wolf is definitely an out-of-the-box story with its kinky sex cutting more on the edge of sadomasochism than vampires, some unorthodox religious and political points of view regarding the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ and the faux pas of our current president, George Bush, respectively, and more. What the novel is really about is what Philip Carlo specializes in depicting, the world of predator pedophiles. So if you want to know how they think, feel, and carry out their psychopathic behavior - and add in plenty of murder and mayhem - this is your next suspenseful, riveting read! A bit too scary for my taste but if you're a lover of vampires, horror, or a deeper mystery than average, definitely go for this one! Reviewed by Viviane Crystal on June 18, 2006 |
