"I tried to contain myself but I escaped," is the quote so aptly beginning this hilarious, light-hearted novel! For jealousy is threatening Nina Robertson of Salem, Massachusetts - jealousy of her seemingly perfect cousin, Celie. It's a jealousy gone raw because now she receives an invitation to her cousin's wedding, only to find she's wearing Nina's beloved, dream dress! What can she do when she's caught trying it on shortly before the wedding? Will others believe Nina's trying to ruin the wedding? Is she? This humiliating opening is then followed by some brief back-tracking about how Nina has arrived at this devastatingly embarrassing moment. We then begin to experience Nina on the job where she becomes brassy enough to ask for a promotion and earns the jealousy of a sneaky peer and difficult movie star she must placate at every moment. Disaster seems very, very close but Nina seems to buck up her stamina and... ...begins to find out who she really is with some unexpected, funny, and poignantly romantic moments with someone you'll never guess will totally fall for her and see her for the creative, outrageous, and beautiful character Kimberly Llewellyn presents in such colorful detail! As chick lit goes, this one's cute, sexy, and says much, much more than its lightness pretends to offer! Very nicely done, Ms. Llewellyn! Reviewed by Viviane Crystal on January 12, 2007 |
